It’s that time of year again… The latest edition of Marketing Week has published the Top 10 most complained about UK advertisements of 2013. These are always quite interesting as the themes explored in them are a good indication of consumer sentiment and sensitivities, as well as changing fashions. This year, there are few surprises in the themes depicted, with sex (seemingly inseparable from advertising anyway) figuring strongly. Certainly, the No.1 most controversial ad for e-cigarettes, was very predictable.
The ad occupying the tenth spot, however, did take me somewhat by surprise. I get the point raised in the editorial, but I personally thought it quite a powerful piece from Cancer Research. It’s all a matter of perspective though.
